It's about half way from thunder bay and Fort Frances so if u are to tired to drive its a nice place ro stop where in the summer can take your kids or even yourself to the lake to go swimming which 1 is right across the highway from the motel and the owners are awesome

The rooms are clean and updated with all the basic amenities one needs. The best part is that each room has a view of the beautiful lake across the street. I will definitely be coming back here to stay!

If I could give this place 6 stars, I would. Saintly hostess, cozy, updated clean and spacious cabins. Amazing home cooked food and a view of the lake. You can walk across the street to their dock to enjoy the sunset too. Extremely reasonable rates.

  • *****

The cabin was huge, clean and newly renovated. The food in the diner is home made and delicious while Linda, the owner, is an exceedingly gracious host. So glad to have found this place.

Can't say enough good things about Sapawe. I have always stayed in town. Now I can't imagine staying anywhere else when working in Atikokan. Linda, and Lila, made me feel like family from the first moment I got here. The food was exceptional. As someone who travels all the time for work, I can't tell you what a welcome treat it was to eat homemade food. And excellent cooking at that. I only wish I was saying longer. Thanks ladies! I will see you again next time I am up here

Interesting place. Considering there was nothing available in atikokan, this was a godsend. It was really busy spot- hydro people, enbrigde guys, tourists, the place was full when I arrived. Luckily I booked a room a week ago. It was clean. People were very friendly. Good selection of TV channels- you will need these since there is nothing to do a night. Lots of snacks in restaurant. Attendant will make you dinner orlunch or breakfast. The only problem is the bed is not top quality. After 1 night I was sore ( I have a badback), after 3 nights I would be crippled. But it gets a high rating because there is no competition.

Motel is brand new. Room was meticulously clean. Across the street is a dock, boat and swimming area owned by motel. Nice spot to sit while sun going down. Owner takes much pride in her units, and her attached diner. Guests must call ahead to make dining arrangements.
Room was large with a covered porch, parking in front.

After having our camping plans scrapped due to bad weather, we had to scramble to find a place. We found this place and booked it last minute after reading the reviews. Are we ever happy we did. This place is exactly what we were looking for on our cross Canada trip. Do you want to sit on your deck overlooking a lake and listen to the loons calling at dusk? Do you want a very clean room with bright white linens (the duvets on both beds still had the fold marks from coming just out of the package)? Do want to walk across the road and fish off their dock on a lake with no cottages or boats in site? Do you want to decompress and forget about the city. This is Canadiana people. It is a small business with pride of ownership. There are a a couple of bad reviews to be ignored which are laughable - one from a guy who didn't stay there and another who wasn't happy with trying to get a refund via Paypal which btw is beyond the small business owner's control. Seriously? I could go on and on but no sense repeating glowing comments. There is a road in front of the place that has some truck traffic but hey - it is not the Trans Canada hwy. It is a supply route to remote back country communities and totally not an issue. If we were not on a schedule, we would have seriously considered booking a week there and rented a small boat to explore and fish the area.

This motel has been beautifully renovated. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable and the diner serves great food. I forgot an item in the room and Linda carefully packed and mailed it immediately after it was found. A great find and I would definitely stay here again!

Found this place on google maps, it lives up to its reviews. The rooms are clean, the owners are very nice, the supper was fantastic. What more can you say.

The Sapawe Motel is an awesome little gem! The rooms are incredibly nice and the price for a night is reasonable. My partner and I had driven to Thunder Bay only to discover that every hotel in the region was completely booked. We called several places and we finally found a room at the Sapawe Motel. We were incredibly thankful and we enjoyed our stay.

If I could give 10 stars I would! Back in November I got caught up in a bad snow storm while leaving fort frances to return home to thunder bay. Called and booked a room just in case. Linda got me a room ready for the night as the highways were shut down to town, had an amazing dinner, room was beautiful, the next day I was worried about checking out due to the storm that hit. They let me stay until later that day... around noon I think I left to get back home once the roads were clear and open. Would recommend to anyone wanting a safe place to stay for the night!
